LITURGY

Music Team

Music is an integral part of our Eucharistic celebration. We currently have a men’s choir, women’s choir and various small groups, which lead us in our worship each week. Whilst these groups share their gifts with our community through music, they also enjoy the friendship and fellowship with other members within the group.

If you’re not a soloist or are a bit ‘shy’ you can join one of the choirs. Instrumentalists can play with others to ensure it is not too daunting; if you don’t feel confident enough to play solo.

We are currently in the process of organising a children’s group, so if you have children who are budding ‘The Voice’ contestants, what better way to hone their skills than to sing at church.

It worked for Guy Sebastian!!

The commitment is only once a month and there is always opportunity to swap with another group if you are unavailable any given month.

Our group members are the happiest bunch and are always looking to welcome new members, so sign up for one of our groups below. You won’t regret it!

Tess Carr (Music Co-ordinator) will be in contact once you’ve signed up with further details.

Communion Round

This Parish Renewal has been an opportunity to reflect on our own faith journey and how we can continue to be Christ like in the world today. Ministering to our community is one way in which we can bring Jesus’ word to others.

Our Communion Round reaches out to those who are unable to come to Mass and share in the Eucharist as a church community, thus we would like to invite you to join the team of volunteer Eucharistic ministers. This is a rewarding ministry that engages people and allows them to continue to be a part of the St Bernard’s community and invites relationships to form.

If you feel that this is a ministry that you could assist with, we invite you to sign up and be a part of this team. Formation will take place so that you will feel comfortable in knowing the process of the liturgy.

The ministry involves going to people’s homes and/or aged care facilities. All ministers will go out in pairs, so you would not be alone. Once you are there, a short prayer service is celebrated together before the distribution of communion.

Currently, the team gathers on a Friday to complete this ministry, however, if you would like to give an indication of your availability, we are aiming to work on a system that would provide this ministry on days that suit both the recipients and the ministers.

Please consider signing up to this extraordinary ministry.

Contact will be made with you and further details will be provided soon.

Liturgical Ministries

This Parish Renewal allows us to engage in thoughtful reflection on our faith and how we can actively embody Christ's teachings in our daily lives today. Serving our community is a tangible way to show our care and compassion for others, while our various celebrations thrive through the involvement and dedication of everyone in our parish.

We encourage you to lend your support to the liturgy by considering volunteering for the numerous ministries that contribute to the Eucharistic celebration. Each ministry plays a vital role in fostering a sense of belonging, helping individuals feel more connected to one another and to God, all while showcasing their unique gifts and integrating them into the life of our community.

You could volunteer to participate on a roster or as an emergency on a casual basis. Training will be provided to ensure you feel fully prepared and empowered to participate in any ministry you choose to join.

·         Mass Set up and clean up: preparing the altar, the credence table with the chalice and plates, the Offertory table with the Bread and Wine, clearing all items after Mass.

Sacristan

The presentation and maintenance of all aspects of the Sanctuary and symbolic church items is an important part of the functioning of the celebration of sacraments within the church. This activity is a tangible way in which you could offer your service to the community. It involves the cleaning of all items such as the candles, the water and baptismal fonts, the Altar, the credence and offertory tables, as well as all the items used for masses and other sacraments, and the cleaning of the cloths and towels.

The tasks could be completed at a time to suit you, for about an hour each week. Some tasks need to be completed regularly while others only need to be undertaken occasionally.

The Priests Vestments is an additional and possibly a separate task. It requires someone able to clean and maintain the various items worn by the Priest.

If you are able to volunteer for all or part of this ministry, further information and training will be provided.

Baptismal Preparation

Baptism is traditionally celebrated for children as infants, marking the beginning of their journey in the Catholic faith. This sacrament, according to the Rite of Baptism for Children, involves parents and godparents making a commitment to raise the child in the Catholic faith.

The preparation for infant baptism is seen as a prime opportunity for faith formation for parents and godparents. To this end, parents are required to attend a preparation session.

Baptisms typically occur within the parish where the family resides or regularly worships. When multiple children are baptised on the same day, it is preferable to hold a single ceremony, ideally during a Sunday Eucharist to emphasise the communal nature of the sacrament. The presence of the parish community is encouraged at baptisms, even if not celebrated within the Eucharist. This fosters a sense of communal support and welcome for the newly baptised child and their family.

Preparation for Baptism involves parents attending a preparation session to understand the significance of Baptism and their role in their child's faith journey. A specific program is tailored to support the parents in their understanding and are held once a month in the church. We would welcome anyone who feels that they are able to lead these sessions.

The Baptism preparation coordinator will be in touch and provide further details.
